Sapporo Teppanyaki

For lovers of Japanese cuisine, Sapporo Teppanyakiare two of the most beautiful words ever uttered. The chain is synonymous with top-notch food, served in a slick, contemporary setting. While chefs boil rice to perfection and sling hunks of meat onto hellishly hot grills, dinners watch in eager anticipation. Glasgow’s branch of the emerging chain can be found on Ingram Street in Merchant City, where it’s characterised by open-plan dining/cooking, unfailingly polite service and food so delectable you won’t know whether to photograph it or taste it first. Open from 12pm daily, Sapporo Teppanyaki serves up traditional teppanyaki, complete with grilled skewers, tempura, sushi and gyoza. Set meals offer the best way of getting to grips with the best the restaurant has to offer, from crispy duck rolls to tender beef sirloin and sapporosauteed potatoes. The nigiri sushi, made with the finest seaweed and yellowfin tuna before being deftly hand rolled, is exquisite; for a local take on the Japanese classic, try the Glasgow roll, which is made with smoked haddock and flying fish roe. For fresh, flavoursome Japanese cuisine, it has to be Sapporo Teppanyaki.

I went with my husband after buying a voucher from itison. The experience was really enjoyable as we had never been to a Japanese restaurant before. The chefs were fantastic and entertained us. The food was delicious.

I had never been in a Japanese restaurant before and was extremely surprised by the standard of the food. There were 20 in our group and half of us were experiencing the cuisine for the first time. The staff were very friendly and put on a great show on cooking and serving our food. Reasonably priced and would recommend the restaurant especially if it is a large group.

I absolutely loved it. The food was great and the chef show was brilliant. Haven’t laughed so much in a long time. Would definitely recommend to anyone! Even the fussy eaters!
